Celeb Divorce: Kenya Moore and the World's Longest Divorce
Jan 24, 2024Kenya Moore is breathing a giant sigh of relief after FINALLY being granted a divorce last month.... after three acrimonious years battling it out with her ex, Marc Daly. Of Real Housewives of Atlanta (RHOA) fame and her very own successful hair care line (Kenya Moore Hair), Kenya had a lot to lose in her divorce and her ex was not going to go quietly.
Kenya stated they did NOT have a prenup and their case shows just how important a prenuptial agreement is in the case of a divorce. While she has advocated for friends to have a prenup in the past, when Marc was adamant about NOT having a prenup, Kenya felt she had to go along with it. And boy, was that a big mistake.
While Kenya and Marc were not facing the financial nightmare that Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann have faced, they still managed to drag out the process over three long and expensive years. They started their separation in September 2019 before briefly giving things another try in 2020, but then Kenya filed for divorce in 2021. She finally got that long awaited divorce in December of 2023.
Here's what I recommend to avoid long, drawn out divorce battles.
How a Prenup Can Help
Prenups get a bad rap. Somehow people think you must be setting yourself up to get divorced. I see it differently. I think you're actually LESS likely to get divorced because you will have had so many money conversations before you get married, and you've had a chance to lay out the ground rules about your family's finances.
A prenup is simply a contract between you and your future husband that outlines what will happen with the money if you ever get divorced. In order to financially protect themselves, more and more people are doing prenups, whether they have a little bit of money or a lot.
While a prenup can seem to put shade on your upcoming marriage, Kenya's divorce shows just how important it is for all parties to have one signed. She could have saved a lot of time and expense if she had the rules in place with a prenup.
Be warned if your future spouse is taking the road of Marc and adamantly refusing a prenuptial agreement, this may be one read flag you don't want to ignore!
